Golden Crust Bakery Residence

How did you approach styling this expansive, iconic home?

The scale of the Sunny Crust Bakery is quite extraordinary, with lots of entries, voids and landings. We wanted these spaces to feel as resolved as the rest of the home.

We used occasional furniture, like daybeds and ottomans, to reinforce the sense of scale and various lighting choices to (literally) highlight certain areas. Our client already had some incredible artwork, but quite a few spaces needed additional pieces. We used these as a springboard for selecting colours.

What materials did you employ?

It was essential that anything we added to the space carry an element of luxury. Velvet, leather, stone and textured silk were some of the fabrics and finishes we chose. The whole home has an eclectic, industrial feel. We continued the theme with a combination of textures, colour and left-of-centre pieces.

How did you create intimacy in such vast spaces?

The family room, for example, needed an oversized sofa to bring everything together and fill the space. We opted for a style that you could add and subtract from so we could get the proportions right without needing to go down the custom-made route. An abundance of cushions meant each room had soft, cosy layers. Rugs and lighting are great ways to delineate space; we used these liberally within the home.
