Stylist Q & A

Tell us how you create 'energy' in a home.

Newly built homes often require multiple layers of furniture and accessories to give them a sense of vivacité. When a home hasn't been lived in, they haven't absorbed the occupants' energy or story; that feeling is acute for quite a while. On the one hand, it's a clean slate; on the other, it can feel unbalanced. Texture, artwork and soft furnishings add the depth you need. Small touches like coffee table books make a huge difference, giving an instant vibe.

How have you incorporated colour into the formal lounge?

We opted for two bold original artworks featuring striking tones of pink and ochre. They're sophisticated, yet not too serious, which allowed us to use timeless, neutral furniture. The cushions we chose mirror the colour in the art and tie everything together. difference.

What was the thinking behind the seating selections?

Such a grand home requires lots of places to 'be'. The family room needed an oversized modular sofa, and we also added two armchairs as an alternative perching option. In the formal lounge, we wanted to mix things up a bit and used four armchairs with a three-seater sofa; it gives the space an unexpected element.

What advice would you give to people choosing floor rugs?

Go for a colour contrasting with your floor and furniture; this avoids everything blending into one another and looking bland. In the formal lounge, we took inspiration from the incredible marble feature wall and used a mid-grey, thick pile rug, which adds an element of understated luxury and cohesiveness.
